"Octopus" is an accurate account of three incidents that Tym endured in Halifax over the course of a weekend. The song was not intended to be snide or joking, but rather sympathetic, of people who have somehow fallen through the cracks of the healthcare system.
lyrics
SCENE I:
A crazy old bird from a crazy old house
Chanting a curse with her twisted old mouth
She's hitting those men ~ Now she's spitting at them
She has debates with herself ~ She has debates with herself
She has debates with herself ~ Now she has pigeons for friends
She got snagged by an octopus
SCENE II:
This decrepit young man thinks he's a modern Chopin
He's playing calypso with a stick and a can
His style is unique but his groove is off-beat
I feel sorry for him ~ He has no steel in his can
I feel sorry for him ~ He has no shoes on his feet
He got snagged and dragged down by an octopus
SCENE III:
She says she thinks she's a girl from a parallel world
She's pulling my hair ~ She wants to take me somewhere
Her husband was thin and I remind her of him
But I can't be that thin ~ He's been dead for ten years
(Man, it sucked to be him) Octopus!!!
He got ripped off, stripped off bad by an octopus
